Mayor’s Debate

Some of our pupils in Form 6 took part in the annual Mayor's debate at Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council.  The debate was chaired by the Mayor, Cllr Chris Brown. Children from a number of schools across the borough debated three topics in the council chamber:
1. Should we have grammar schools and the 11+ test?
2. Should parents be allowed to take their children on holiday during term time?
3. Should all primary school children wear school uniform?

Demonstrating democracy in action, a vote was taken following a debate on each issue. Collectively, the children decided that we should retain grammar schools and the 11+ test, that parents should not be allowed to take holidays during term time and that primary school children should wear uniform.

The children also enjoyed a tour of the Mayor's Parlour (office)
