"Pupils' musical skills are developed to a high standard." - ISI Inspector, December 2017
The Music Department is very active throughout the school. Weekly class music lessons are taught to all year groups from Transition to Year 6 by the Head of Music . In these lessons the emphasis is on practical participation by all children.
There are many opportunities to take part in formal and informal concerts from Transition onwards. The formal concerts take place at St. Saviour’s Church which is situated opposite Hilden Oaks, and weekly informal concerts form part of Values Assembly in the School Hall.
Every year there are larger productions to include each year group. Reception presents a Nativity Musical, Years 1 & 2 perform their musical play during the Spring term, and Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 perform their musical plays in the Summer term. Where possible, the songs in the shows are accompanied by a whole-class band or a smaller ensemble of pupils playing specially arranged music.
Individual and Group Music Lessons
Hilden Oaks offers individual or shared music lessons to all children from Kindergarten (Pre-School children aged 2-3) to Year 6. The lessons are usually during the school day and at a time agreed with the class teacher.
We also offer group children’s music classes from Kindergarten to Year 2 in a group of three or four. In these fun music classes, the children are taught using the voice and a range of melodic and percussive instruments, primarily promoting the more social aspects of music-making. These classes are particularly valuable if your child might want to learn to play an instrument at a later stage.
Music lessons are also available for pupils wishing to trial instrumental or singing lessons for a half term period.
