SAFER INTERNET DAY 2017
Safer Internet Day this year was on 7th February. Mr Johnston took Emily and Connor to the Kent Police Training Facility in Maidstone to find out more about e-safety.
The children, who were chosen as the Hilden Oaks Young Digital Leaders due to their maturity and to paying good attention in computing lessons, attended three seminars.
The first of the seminars was organised by the NSPCC, and took an in-depth look at Childline. Kent Police then talked in the second seminar about e-safety, and the on-line 999 button called CEOP (which features on the Hilden Oaks website). In the final seminar, the children made "chatterboxes" (which the older generation knows as paper fortune tellers), about the golden rules of cyber bullying.
In assembly on Friday, Emily and Connor shared all the details they had learned with Kent Police. It helped to reinforce all that the children throughout the school learn about e-safety during their computing lessons.
Mr Johnston said: "I was very impressed by how attentive Conn or and Emily were when we were with Kent Police. They undestood everything that they were told, and presented very well to the rest of the school in assembly."
