VICTORIAN DAY AT LEEDS CASTLE
As a culmination of their term studying the Victorians, Year 6 spent a day at Leeds Castle finding out more about the subject, including some tricky lessons...
The children arrived at Leeds Castle and were immediately expected to take on the role of children in a Victorian school. Two very strict teachers gave lessons in etiquette and deportment, which the children thoroughly enjoyed. They were then formally introduced to Lord Philip and Lady Elizabeth, who took them on a guided tour of the castle to show them the Christmas decorations and Beatrix Potter exhibition.
In the afternoon, the children learned all about Victorian Christmas tradtions and how they have influenced how we celebrate Christmas today.
It was a memorable day out, which really opened the children's eyes to how we used to live, and gave them a clearer idea of how the past can shape the present day.
