Marina is a Mathematical Marvel!
Hilden Oaks pupil is in top 1% in National Mathematics Challenge
Year 6 pupil Marina Chimonides has won a bronze award in this year’s Primary Mathematics Challenge (PMC), run by The Mathematical Association.
This prestigious honour demonstrates Marina’s achievement as one of the best young mathematicians in the UK.
The first stage of the challenge took place in November 2015 when Marina and her peers competed alongside 72,000 children across the country. Successfully answering a variety of multiple choice mathematics problems, Marina joined the top 1% highest scorers who were invited to take part in the PMC Bonus Round in February.
Marina rose to the challenge and was one of 503 pupils to win an award in the Bonus Round.
Speaking of Marina's success, Mrs Joiner said: “We are extremely proud that Marina has won a bronze medal award. It is a great achievement to receive recognition for mathematical ability on a national scale. ”
Lesley Jones from The Mathematical Association added: “We would like to offer our congratulations to Marina and to all of the pupils who participated this year. We received a large number of entries which reflects a real appetite for solving maths problems and puzzles. It is great to be able to acknowledge brilliant young minds in the UK and nurture the future mathematicians.”
