HILDEN OAKS CHILDREN RAISE OVER £2,000 FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK
Every child at Hilden Oaks School, from Reception to Year 6, took part in the Cancer Research Race for Life Schools’ 5k run this month. The school smashed its original fundraising target of £750, raising over £2,000.
Demonstrating typical Hilden Oaks values of kindness and consideration, the older children buddied up with younger children, encouraging and supporting them around the course. Several parents and staff also took part in the 5k run, with one father carrying his child around the course on his shoulders, and a few toddlers completing the course in buggies pushed by mothers.
It was a drizzly and dreary afternoon, but this did not dampen spirits, and Emily (Year 5) completed the race in first place in a stunning 23 minutes and 55 seconds.
Head of PE, Mrs Sizer, said: “The children had a great afternoon, and were very enthusiastic even when the heavens opened. Emily’s performance was outstanding. I am very proud of all the girls and boys for taking part.”
