Year 6 pupil Charlotte has won a book voucher for herself, and a water butt for the School in a competition run by South East Water.
Early in the Spring term, Warren Fassenfelt, a South East Water Kent Distribution Technician, visited the School and gave a “World of Water” talk to the Year 6 children. Water efficiency was discussed, and the children were asked to fill out the “Every Drop Counts” pledge, and to design a water butt.
The children’s water butt designs were entered into a competition, alongside entries from a number other schools in Kent. Charlotte’s elephant design which included the ‘saving water’ and ‘keep hydrated’ messages, was selected as the Spring term winner.
Mr Fassenfelt returned to Hilden Oaks this week to present Charlotte with the prize. He said: “It was a pleasure to present both Charlotte and her school with the £10 book voucher and water butt. The talks we give to the children are a fun, and a great way to get children thinking about water, the part it plays in their daily life and how they can help others save water.”
Deputy Headmistress Mrs Wade said: “We are delighted that Charlotte’s creative design was chosen as the winner, and are very proud of all the children from the school that took part in the competition.”
“We are grateful to South East Water for their prizes. The water butt will be put to good use as we try to save water during the summer months.”
