Year 6 Children Raise Over £350 for Charity
On Wednesday 4th May, the Year 6 children handed over a cheque for £364.87 to Martin Street, Area Fundraiser from ellenor – a local charity for families facing terminal illness. The children raised the money through their Young Enterprise project.
Having first presented their business plans to friends and family, and gained the necessary investment from them, the children then worked in syndicates, with names such as “Whizzing Wonkas” and “Hap-Pea & Co”, running stalls at the “Young Enterprise Fayre”. Younger Hilden Oaks children and their families came to the fayre, participating in fun games with prizes for everybody. The Year 6 children came away with a profit of £364.87, which they decided to donate to ellenor.
Martin Street said: ‘I’m delighted to accept this donation on behalf of ellenor. It was lovely to hear that Year 6 chose ellenor because we are the local children’s hospice charity. We really do rely on local people fundraising for us and Year 6 have done a fantastic job. Their efforts mean a great deal to the children and families that we care for.’
Mrs Joiner added: “I am delighted with how much money the children have raised for such a worthy cause. They behaved with great maturity throughout the course of the project and have learned a great deal about business. Watch out Lord Sugar!”
