On 11th June, Year 4 visited Temper Temper in Southborough to find out about the history of chocolate in South America...
There is more to chocolate than meets the eye, according to the Year 4 children. At a visit to Temper Temper, they not only made their own florentines, truffles and chocolate faces, they learnt a great deal about the history of chocolate and how it is made.
The children heard all about Fairtrade in South Anerica, and the process of making chocolate, from picking cocoa pods all the way through to when the resultant chocolate is put on the supermarket shelf.
There was a tasting session, comparing dark, milk and white chocolate, and also one comparing Fairtrade to non-Fairtrade chocolate.
The children behaved impeccably, and it was a great way to end a busy exam week.
