Hilden Oaks Centenary
BBC Meteorologist & Weather Presenter Sarah Keith-Lucas helps celebrate 100 years since her great grandmother founded Hilden Oaks School.
On Tuesday, 7th May 2019 we celebrated 100 years since our founding headmistress, Mrs Alys Keith-Lucas started Hilden Oaks School. In the morning we held a special service at St Saviour's Church and in the afternoon we were delighted to welcome family members: great granddaughter, Sarah Keith-Lucas and granddaughter, Mary Benjamin to share in the celebration. Sarah talked to us about her role as a BBC Meteorologist and weather presenter, which she pitched perfectly for the audience of 5 - 11 year olds. She also brought two of the first aeronautical compasses to show the children, which her great grandfather, Dr Keith Lucas, had developed. Afterwards Sarah took a photo from the back of the school, which she used in her broadcast on BBC South East later that evening.
We look forward to welcoming Mary Benjamin, Alys Keith-Lucas' eldest granddaughter, back to Hilden Oaks in June, when she will be our guest speaker for Speech Day and Prize Giving.
